Start your project

Signs it's time to talk about your roof.

A roof rarely fails all at once. Start the conversation before small problems reach the inside of your home.

Leaks or stains inside

Water spots on ceilings, damp attic insulation or daylight through the roof boards point to a roof that is letting water in.

Worn or missing shingles

Curling, cracked or missing shingles and heavy granule loss in the gutters are common signs of an aging asphalt roof.

Ice dams in winter

Thick ice along the eaves can push water under shingles. It often points to attic insulation or ventilation problems as well as roof wear.

An older roof

If your roof is near the end of its expected life, planning a replacement before it fails gives you more control over timing and materials.

The shingles we install

Owens Corning TruDefinition Duration shingles.

It's a laminated architectural shingle with SureNail Technology for wind performance and TruDefinition color for curb appeal.

See TruDefinition Duration colors on Owens Corning

SureNail nailing strip

A tough woven-fabric strip on the face of each shingle marks a wide, easy-to-see nailing zone and helps resist nail pull in high wind.

130 mph wind warranty

Owens Corning backs Duration shingles with a 130 mph limited wind warranty when installed to its requirements.

Limited lifetime warranty

The shingles carry a limited lifetime warranty for as long as you own your home.

TruDefinition color

Multiple granule colors and shadow lines give the roof a rich, dimensional look in a range of popular colors.

Warranty coverage depends on installation requirements and qualifying Owens Corning components. See Owens Corning's warranty for complete details, limitations and requirements.

Plan beyond the shingles.

A roof is a system. What goes under the shingles matters as much as the shingles you see.

Check the decking first.

Once the old shingles come off, the wood decking underneath shows whether there is rot or water damage. Damaged sections should be replaced before new roofing goes on, so plan for that possibility in your budget.

Protection at the eaves

Michigan winters bring snow and ice. Ice and water protection along the eaves and in valleys helps keep melting snow from getting under the shingles.

Attic ventilation

Balanced intake and exhaust ventilation helps control attic heat and moisture, which affects ice dams and how long the roof lasts.

Flashing and gutters

Chimneys, walls, skylights and vents need proper flashing. Gutters and downspouts should carry water away from the house and its foundation.

Roofing questions

What affects the cost of a new roof?

The size and pitch of the roof, the number of old layers to remove, decking repairs, materials and features such as chimneys and skylights all shape the budget. Share what you know about your roof so we can discuss the scope.

How long does a roof replacement take?

The schedule depends on the size and complexity of the roof, the condition of the decking, weather and material availability. Your preferred start date is a useful place to begin the conversation, rather than a guaranteed date.

Do I need a permit for a new roof?

Many communities require one for roof replacement. Requirements depend on your local building department and the scope of the work.

What should I share in my inquiry?

Tell us where the home is, roughly how old the roof is, whether you have seen leaks or ice dams and your budget range. You do not need to know which materials you want to start a conversation.
